Birthday Fun

Happy Birthday to my sweet niece Saffron. Her birthday is the beginning of the crazy summer birthday season in our family. June, July and August are full of cake and fun!

Saffron is holding a "puppy" that I made from a cute pattern by Bunny Hill Designs called "Allie". The Hedgehog messenger bag came from the fabulous book, "One Yard Wonders" in the toddler section.

I have thought for a long time that I would like to sell some of the things that I make. It seems my favorite thing to do is make goodies for my friends and family. As I begin to share the process I am hoping to become confident creating for people I don't know.

I love to share ideas with people. Making things one at a time has not been particulary efficient. I find once I have done something I am ready to try something new. I am keeping my eyes open for patterns that are copy right friendly so in the event I put the item for sale all will be cool.

Practice Post

lunch bags

blogging is a new adventure for me so i thought i would practice with a post of some bags i made this spring. the bags were created for my son's teachers during teacher appreciation week.
the bag with the pink flap is the lunch bag pattern from Favorite Things. i added length to the flap with the ruffle and created the front panel by sewing scraps to a piece of muslin. the pink bag turned out to be a fun creation with pink denim and Kaffe Fasset fabrics. i started with a commercially made lunch bag we had to determine the size. the straps are pieced with the prints from the front and lining. i was in a ruffle mood that day so the top has a ruffle to match the lining. the blue chicken bag was made for a chicken collector. the bag is something i have worked on for gift bags and small shopping bags. extending the strap made a perfect size for a lunch bag. i was pleased how the bags came together.

i currently have a couple of fun things on my sewing table that i hope to share in the next week or so. the photography is currently a bit of a challenge for me but i will embrace the learning opportunity and hopefully share some new and fun ideas. happy crafting!!
